National Defence University’s Russia seminar 2023

Russia Seminar 2023 will be held at the National Defence University on the 15th-16th of February 2023. The seminar discusses Russian military policy and the research development in that field.

The main theme of the seminar will be ”Russia’s war on Ukraine: strategic and operational designs and implementation”.

The seminar will be organized online for the audience. You can watch the seminar live or recorded on the National Defence University’s Youtube channel.

National Defence University of Finland (FNDU) organizes the annual Russia-seminar on the 16th of February 2022. The main theme of the seminar will be ”Russian Concept of War and Operation, Management, and Use of Military Power – Conceptual Change”.

Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulun Venäjä-seminaari 2022

Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulu järjestää vuosittaisen Venäjä-seminaarin 16. helmikuuta 2022. Seminaarin pääteema on ”Venäläinen sodan ja operaation konsepti, johtaminen ja aseellisen voiman käyttö – konseptuaalinen muutos”.

Seminaari järjestetään yleisölle verkon välityksellä johtuen vallitsevasta COVID-19 tilanteesta. Linkki rekisteröitymiseen ja yksityiskohtainen ohjelma julkaistaan myöhemmin tammikuun 2022 aikana.

Venäjän kansallinen tarina: uhkakuvat ja isänmaallisuus yhtenäisyyden rakennusaineina

Venäjän toiminta on lisännyt jännitteitä Euroopassa, mutta millaisia vaikutuksia tilanteella on Venäjän sisällä? Tiedekulmasta suorana lähetyksenä esitettävässä keskustelutilaisuudessa analysoidaan miten uhkakäsitykset ovat Venäjällä muuttuneet? Mistä patriotismissa oikeastaan on kyse ja mitä eri merkityksiä siihen nyky-Venäjällä liitetään?  Keskustelu perustuu Helsinki University Pressin tuoreeseen avoimeen julkaisuun The Nexus of Patriotism and Militarism in Russia: A Quest for Internal Coherence (2021).

Tilaisuuden vetäjänä toimi kirjan toimittaja, Helsingin yliopiston ja Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulun yhteisen Mannerheim-professuurin haltija, apulaisprofessori Katri Pynnöniemi, ja aihetta on käsittelemässä Venäjän historian, kulttuurin ja politiikan tutkijat Kati Parppei, Veera Laine, Elina Kahla, Jussi Lassila, Jonna Alava ja Salla Nazarenko.

Russia Seminar 2019

The National Defence University’s Russia Seminar was organised in the Santahamina Building on 25 April 2019. The main speakers were Michael Kofman (Russian threat perceptions) and Kati Parppei (Enemy images in Russian national narrative). The topics discussed included Russia’s security policy and the development of research in the field for example in the Security Policy I Session with Olli-Matti Mikkola (chairman), Katri Pynnöniemi, Elina Sinkkonen and Jussi Lassila as speakers.

The National Defence University organised the seminar in cooperation with the University of Helsinki and the Hybrid Centre of Excellence. The Mannerheim Foundation granted financial support that enabled the organising of the seminar.
