Russia Group member Katri Pynnöniemi has been appointed Professor at the University of Helsinki (Aleksanteri Institute). She holds Mannerheim Chair of Russian Security Studies. The joint professorship between the University of Helsinki and the Finnish National Defense University was established in August 2017.
Professor Pynnöniemi conducts and supervises research on Russia’s security policy. Currently, she focuses on the study of Russia’s strategic thinking, military thought, and threat analysis. Professor Pynnöniemi also actively participates in discussions within academic communities and in the public sphere.
