Russia Group had the honor of welcoming Ms. Persson to Santahamina in November.

Gudrun Persson is an expert on Russian foreign and security policy and an Associate Professor at the Department of Slavic and Baltic Languages, Finnish and Dutch at Stockholm University. She previously served as Research Director at the Swedish Defence Research Agency and is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences and the Royal Society of Naval Sciences.

The eventful day comprised of a working luncheon, a collaborative meeting, and a lecture regarding Russian military thought for FNDU students. The evening programme, organized by the Mannerheim foundation, University of Helsinki and the FNDU in the Mannerheim Museum, included celebratory remarks about the full professorship of Katri Pynnöniemi. Special attention was paid to the launch of Persson’s new book, titled “Russian Military Thought: The Evolution of Strategy Since the Crimean War”, published by Georgetown University Press.
